Nantes will not broadcast World Cup matches in Qatar in public | News

The World Cup is the most criticized event of this year. And for good reason: organized in Qatar, it represents a catastrophic environmental and human disaster. The construction of the stadiums has already caused 6,500 deaths among workers paid an average of 1 euro per hour, and the greenhouse gas emissions of the event are expected to be indecent. The latest scandal? The establishment by Qatar of 160 shuttles a day that will transport fans every 10 minutes.

Nantes boycott in turn

No wonder, then, that a number of cities are starting to boycott this sporting event. After Strasbourg, Lille, Paris, Lyon or even Bordeaux (but also Villeurbanne, Caluire and Vénissieux in the Metropolis), it is the turn of Nantes. Nantes city hall announced on Thursday 6 October that it will not publicly broadcast any World Cup matches.

If the city of Nantes takes the lead, the bars do as they want. But for those wishing to boycott the World Cup, the site “Bring the cup to reason” proposes to list the establishments which undertake not to broadcast matches anywhere in France.

Nantes loves sportsmen and sportsmen, from the professional and amateur world, but not at any price, She said Ali Rebouh, sports assistant. In a moment of social and ecological emergency, we cannot turn a blind eye to the conditions for organizing this World Cup.
