Along the Boulevard des Pas Enchantés, at the entrance to the René Massé stadium in Saint-Sébastien-sur-Loire (Loire-Atlantique), near Nantes, a stencil “Here begins the Loire” is installed. There is a similar system in Rezé and Basse Goulaine.
In these municipalities, Nantes Metropolis has just installed a sign “Here begins the Loire”, to make residents and walkers aware of the protection of their aquatic environment and of reduce waste found in waterways. The Metropolis has also set up a stencil in Vertou but this time the inscription “Here begins the Sèvre” appears there.
A phase of experimentation
Until September 2022, this system will be deployed on four sites in the municipalities of the Loire, Sèvre, Vignoble cluster:
- The hold of Beautour and the road to Nantes near the shops in Vertou.
- Access to the René Massé stadium, boulevard des Pas Enchantés in Saint Sébastien sur Loire.
- The rue du Grignon (near the restaurants), the Halle du Grignon and the rue de la poste in the commune of Basse-Goulaine.
- The Marcel Boissard and Surcouf quays in Rezé.
This waste can end up in waterways and be transported to the ocean. Thanks to this educational device, we want to encourage residents and walkers to develop good reflexes. Water is part of the identity of our territory, a common good necessary for our different uses. As such, it is a resource that we must protect.
These places take part in the first phase of environmental awareness experimentation planned until September 2022. Nantes Métropole plans to make the installation of these plates permanent and to extend the signage to all 24 municipalities of the community.
