From the outside, Sunday morning May 22, nothing apparent at No. 9 Boulevard Vincent-Gâche, on the island of Nantes. However, during the night, around 1:40 a.m., the firefighters were called for a fire in a technical room on the ground floor of this student residence, near the garbage bins.
For safety, 25 people, who occupied the 80-unit residence, were evacuated during the intervention of the twenty firefighters. Material damage was light and no one was injured. Residents were able to end their night at home.
Of voluntary origin?
This fire intrigues, and could be of voluntary origin. This Sunday, a resident, crossed in the hall, has no doubts, believing that “the fire did not start by itself”.
She talks about recent issues with an aggressive resident and front doors “always open” to access the building. “Fortunately the fire alarm went off. I left immediately. Two boys had started putting out the fire before the firefighters arrived,” she says.
