Nantes: a man injured by gunfire this weekend

A man in his forties was seriously injured by gunfire in a building in the north of Nantes, marking a new escalation of violence in the city. According to authorities, the individual was found by firefighters in the elevator shaft, suffering from a bullet in the abdomen. He was immediately transported in an “absolute emergency” to the Nantes University Hospital, as confirmed this morning by the Loire-Atlantique fire and rescue operational center.

New shooting in Nantes with no injuries nearby

A few hours after this incident, around 3:30 a.m., gunshots rang out again in the area, this time near the Route de la Chapelle-sur-Erdre, not far from the first scene. These new shots targeted residential buildings, notably damaging windows and entrance doors, but without causing any injuries. The police, who suspect a possible settling of scores linked to drug trafficking, have entrusted the investigation to the Organized and Specialized Crime Division (DCOS).

A series of violence which worries

These violent episodes are part of a climate of growing tensions in Nantes, with similar incidents occurring the previous weekend. During the night from Saturday to Sunday, a shooting broke out on rue Samuel de Champlain, a street frequently associated with drug trafficking. According to the regional newspaper West FranceKalashnikov shots even hit the bedroom door of a resident, fortunately absent from his home at the time of the incident. The day before, in the Bottière district, a 24-year-old man was also shot in the knee, leading to the intervention of CRS 82.
