NANTES

Today it is a dynamic city, an important industrial and university center. Besides its past and its heritage, Nantes is famous beyond our borders, for its market gardening activity (lamb’s lettuce, early vegetables) and for its horticulture (lily of the valley).

This reputation also extends to the floral field: its parks and gardens are renowned. This passion for the plant world is old, and dates from the 17th century: the shipowners with an adventurous spirit, the captains and sailors who crisscrossed the seas of the globe brought back seeds, cuttings of trees and shrubs from distant countries.

This is how we can see, in many public and also private gardens, beautiful specimens (especially conifers) of trees planted in this way by sailors from Nantes, botanical enthusiasts.
