Hamid M., the man who tried to kill his rival by burning him alive, is sentenced to fifteen years in prison. This Friday, the Hauts-de-Seine Assize Court delivered its verdict in this case where lies and betrayals led to the tragedy, September 24, 2017 in Nanterre.
Hamid M. wanted to teach a lesson to the ex-spouse of the one with whom he had fallen in love a few weeks earlier “But he never intended to kill him”, pleaded his lawyer, Me Denis Fayolle. His client had assured that he had not voluntarily lit the lighter he held in his closed fist, after having sprayed his rival with gasoline. Not credible for the general counsel, Delphine Arrighi, who precisely required fifteen years of imprisonment. “When we spill gasoline and set it on fire, it is necessarily a deadly idea,” she argued.
This trial was also that of Ilham A., the one for whom Hamid committed this act of “madness” he himself said. Recognizing not to have absolute certainty but a conviction, the Advocate General had nevertheless required eight years against this woman who is “the only link between the two men”. For Delphine Arrighi, Ilham A. gave the address of the victim to her lover. But the jurors did not follow her. Without proof that she had informed her lover, they acquitted her. Not only is there no proof, pleaded one of his lawyers, Me Joseph Cohen-Sabban. “But she had no motive. She was not going to kill the goose golden eggs, ”summarizes the criminal. Because Ilham took advantage of the financial well-being of his ex-companion. Well ex, not quite. In September 2017, she had patched up with him, while maintaining an affair with Hamid. That, this 44-year-old former robber, hadn’t understood.
