nanny accused of beating 7-year-old girl during English lessons arrested

Miami-Dade County authorities have arrested a babysitter accused of causing a 7-year-old girl to have a brain hemorrhage. According to local media, the minor was hit on the head at least 13 times while she was receiving harsh English lessons.

Local 10 News points out that the incident occurred last Saturday, when Leonor García, 62 years old, would have lost patience during said lessons.

After being accused, the old woman stated that the minor had injured her head while doing some “somersaults”, a version that would have been denied by the doctors.

The minor would have confirmed to a nurse that, during her lessons, the nanny hit her on the head with various objects, including a metal spoon, a remote control and a telephone.

The punishment was given every time the minor made a mistake when translating a word from Spanish to English.

The aforementioned medium indicates that the minor underwent surgical surgery because she developed a subdural hematoma, a kind of hemorrhage that can generate pressure on the brain.

Additionally, the Miami-Dade police were able to confirm that the little girl had a black eye, had several bruises on one shoulder, and had swelling on the right side of her face.

The police report detailed that the girl was in the care of the elderly woman all Saturday, and that the assault took place in an apartment located in the 10000 block of Southwest 216th Street, near Cutler Bay.

That night, the minor began to complain of a severe headache, so Garcia called the mother to pick her up. Shamelessly, the old woman told her mother that the girl had hit her head several times trying to do somersaults, for which she recommended taking her to the hospital.

The mother followed this advice, but the nanny did not count on the girl confessing that the pain was due to the several blows she received during her English lesson. The little girl also said that the old woman told her not to tell anyone about her beatings.

After making a complaint, García was arrested and taken to the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center, where she posted a $7,500 bond to carry out the rest of the process under freedom.

The nanny faces a charge of aggravated child abuse, which is made worse by the fact that she caused multiple bodily harm. This crime is considered a first degree felony in Florida, for which she could face a sentence of up to 30 years in prison.
