“Nani leaves Melbourne Victory after disappointing A-League season”

Melbourne Victory welcomed the arrival of the 36-year-old winger last year as one of the biggest A-League signings in years.

However, Nani did not live up to the hopes placed on him and failed to score in all the matches he played, before a serious knee injury ruled him out for the rest of the season.

“The club would like to thank Nani for his contribution and wish him all the best for the future,” Victory said in a statement.

Nani joined the Australian league from the Italian club Venezia, after moving in the United States, Spain and Turkey leagues after his departure from United in 2015. He played 112 international matches for Portugal and won the Premier League title four times with United.

Melbourne Victory finished the season in penultimate eleventh place.
