After the departure of the macaques last December, new animals are leaving the great Nursery park of Nancy (Meurthe-et-Moselle).
The objective of the new municipality is to minimize animal presence in this urban park.
The news should satisfy animal rights activists and undoubtedly disappoint those who appreciate their presence on a family outing. Four fallow deer have just left their enclosure in the park for the Dordogne, the municipality announced on Friday March 19, 2021.
The objective of the City of Nancy is to renounce the reception and accommodation of non-domestic species which cannot adapt to life in captivity. She is looking for placement solutions for these animals currently housed in the park. Other structures can indeed better ensure their physiological needs and their well-being, while guaranteeing the safety and health of those who take care of them.
Old urban zoo
Two animal associations, 30 Millions d’Amis and Code Animal, are working to find new shelters for animals in the Pépinière park.
During its heyday, the wildlife area was a real urban zoo with crocodiles, bears, monkeys, lion, kangaroo and puma.
Fallow deer transferred to an animal park
The deers of the Pépinière park have taken the direction of a animal park in Dordogne where they can live in “a more suitable space”. It already brings together 1,000 wild and domestic animals of 150 different European species over 42 hectares.
The animal area of the Nancy park is gradually transforming into a place of ‘public awareness of animal biodiversity’ “, according to the municipality with the presence of” small domesticated species “.
