“One day I’m going to leave, maybe not in a long time,” Nana Mouskouri, 88, told “Gala” this week, as she talks about the stage outfits she’s going to part with during a auction for the benefit of the Fondation des Hôpitaux on June 19. Words that she did not choose at random, because the star who lives in Geneva has faced the disease. She revealed for the first time that she had to fight against pancreatic cancer.
The singer explained that she suffered from this disease eight years ago. She had never mentioned it before: “I never wanted to talk about it. It was in 2015, I came back from Australia, I followed chemotherapy which lasted eight months.
Despite the shock, she remained positive: “I know you should never give up when you’re sick. You really have to fight.” And fortunately, she was able to count on the support of her husband, André Chapelle. “We got married in 2003, at the insistence of Jean-Claude Brialy, my great friend and witness. With André, we have known each other since 1964, he became my producer”, she explained. “If I hadn’t had it, I wouldn’t have done everything I did. We are still in love. When he’s there, I’m fine. I’m afraid of losing him. And it’s the same for him. I am very happy to have found it. Or did he find me, I don’t know…”
