Named alcoholic beverages that cause addiction faster. Reedus

Research by a group of scientists from the University of Guelph, Canada, showed that low-alcohol, high-fructose beverages, such as sodas with fruit juices, can contribute to quick and easy alcohol addiction, especially among adolescents. According to scientists, such drinks are an easy way to get acquainted with alcohol, stimulating its further frequent use.

The researchers conducted an experiment on rats by giving them alcoholic beverages that had corn syrup (a high fructose sweetener) added to them. Usually, most rats refuse to voluntarily drink alcohol, showing disgust for it. But when scientists added sugary syrup to drinks, the animals’ alcohol consumption skyrocketed. Drinks containing 10% alcohol and 25% corn syrup prompted some rats to drink the sweet alcoholic mixture so quickly and in such quantities that for an adult it would be equivalent to about 4.5 liters of beer drunk in half an hour.

Scientists have concluded that sweetness from syrup or juices changes a person’s perception of alcohol, even if at first he did not like the taste of alcoholic beverages.

Most people who don’t like the taste of alcohol in the drink drink sweetened cocktails. – says Professor Francesco Leri, one of the authors of the study.

The professor believes that it is necessary to convince beverage producers not to use high fructose sweeteners (syrups, juices, soda etc.), or refrain from selling their products to young consumers.

The scientist also urges young people of university age to be careful about drinking cocktails with juices and soda, and parents to discuss the problem of sugary alcoholic drinks with their teenage children.

Just because it’s sweet doesn’t make it any safer than a regular can of beer or a glass of wine. Alcohol is alcohol, no matter what, – sums up Professor Leri.

Earlier, “Reedus” wrote about medical procedure, increasing the tendency of children to alcoholism.
