When asked if it might be relevant to come up with new national measures in the coming week, Nakstad answers that there is one thing in particular that will be crucial.
– What will be most crucial in the days ahead is whether the municipalities manage to reduce the infection among children and young people, and whether we manage to test enough for the children to avoid constant quarantine periods due to outbreaks at their schools, Nakstad says to NTB.
More and more areas are currently experiencing increased infection, which has led to local shutdowns. On Sunday, it was Ålesund and the two neighboring municipalities Sula and Giske that closed down.
akstad says that the infection in the last week has mostly taken place in municipalities that have national measures according to the corona regulations chapter 5, such as the whole of Oslo and Viken. There, 80-90 percent of the infections have come, the assistant health director states.
Said no to national measures
– However, there are more and more examples of infection increase also elsewhere, for example on Askøy outside Bergen. Whether the municipalities want to come under the national scheme depends on whether they have control of the infection and whether there is a suspicion of regional spread or not. We participate in many of the state administrators’ meetings with the municipalities to assist with national coordination where it is desirable, says Nakstad.
On Sunday, Askøy and the municipalities around the Western Norway region refused to accept national measures.
– Is it justifiable in terms of infection control to have national measures that nevertheless lead to such outbreaks, which then require a local shutdown after the outbreak has occurred?
– Today we have a national safety net of rules and advice that applies to everyone who is in Norway. We are working on recommendations to the government on how this safety net can be further strengthened towards Easter, in addition to the strict measures that have been introduced in many regions already, says Nakstad.
Fear more partying
Over the weekend, several police districts have reported party problems. It is especially in the cities outside the closed Oslo area that the police have reported partying.
– We fear that there will be more parties and gatherings with many people present throughout the spring, but see that most still follow the infection control rules and take responsibility for reducing the infection where they live, says Espen Nakstad to NTB.
