There are not many precedents in the still young world of social media for what Naim Darrechi has done. Once one of the most popular content creators on TikTok, his fame boosted by the controversies he has been involved in for several years, he has closed his Instagram and Chinese platform accounts in one fell swoop; in total, he had more than 30 million followers who, since yesterday, are divided between those who are shocked and those who cannot stop celebrating the news.
His disappearance has been complete and, in reality, it is an honourable act. It is due to the dispute between Darrechi and Luis Pride, a Mexican mixed martial artist and influencer with whom the Mallorcan was having a dispute on social media. This fight transcended the screen and went straight to the ring: both agreed to a boxing match with the condition that whoever lost had to close their accounts, both aware that, to a large extent, this meant greatly torpedoing their work activity.
While it is true that Darrechi held out for all the rounds, and Luis did not manage to knock him out, which, on the other hand, could have been predictable, the fight ended with the referee raising the Mexican’s arm. Everyone had seen it; Naim had to do his job, and he did.
The fall of a controversial tiktoker
This event has caused a real earthquake on social media. To understand the magnitude of the issue, as of last summer Naim Darrechi was the second most followed TikToker on the platform in Spain with 30.5 million followers, ahead of people like Rosalía, from the official Real Madrid account and all the content creators and influencers in the country (Lola Lolita, for example, has around 12 million); he was only surpassed by Benjikrol and his almost 34 million.
The musician, who was arrested last year in Mexico for disturbing public order, went viral for boasting about tricking girls into having sex without a condom, returning once again to the media spotlight by carrying out a “social experiment” consisting of changing his sex. “Now I am a woman because they have more rights,” he said at the time.
