Nailloux: blood drives 2020 suffered from covid

Monday took place at the Maison des Associations, the last blood drive of the year 2020 organized by the association “Les Donneurs de sang naillousains” with the French Blood Establishment (EFS).

The confinements caused a drastic reduction in the number of blood donations with the consequence of a drying up of the reserves of the French Blood Establishment. In addition, due to the health situation, many collections have been canceled in companies, universities and others. The authorities estimate the drop at more than 35%.

In Nailloux, 4 blood drives were planned for the year 2020, but the one in April had to be canceled.

For the following, July 9, 2020: 54 donors presented themselves. Because of the heat, the collection took place in the morning and this changed the donors’ habits. October 20: 91 donations were collected and December 28, 76 donors.

Over the year, this represents 221 donors. Muriel Vidal, treasurer of the association, regrets this mixed report: “For comparison, in 2019, we received 360 donors for 4 collections. The number of donors is decreasing, but we have had a very special year in terms of health. “.

During the blood drives, everything was done to respect the barrier gestures in order to protect the donors and the staff of the French Blood Establishment. This year, the volunteers were not able to organize the snack as in previous years, the EFS provided small meal trays for more safety.

“We strongly hope for a return to normal for the year 2021, and we wish to be able to offer a snack again by associating the traders of Nailloux” she adds.

For the year 2021, four collections are planned, on April 20, July 7, October 19 or 27, and December 29. The last 2 dates are to be confirmed.
