Ukraine as a whole produces up to 20 billion cubic meters of gas per year with a consumption of about 29.8 billion cubic meters.
Ukraine needs to increase its own gas production in the country by five billion cubic meters per year – up to 25 billion. Such a condition for the country’s energy independence named the head of the company Naftogaz Yuriy Vitrenko on the air of the Ukraine 24 TV channel.
Vitrenko also spoke about the importance of reducing inefficient electricity consumption.
“This will allow Ukraine to actually reach the level of energy independence, that is, we will not import gas, we will even be able to export it in small volumes,” he stressed.

Note that the US and German authorities are discussing the possibility of providing assistance to Ukraine in the construction of new power plants and infrastructure development in connection with the completion of the construction of the Russian gas pipeline Nord Stream-2.
