SINAR HARAPAN–Chair of Trustees of Healthy Indonesia Partnership Foundation (YKIS). Nafsia Mboy said the trend of HIV/AIDS transmission has now changed because it’s more pregnant mother and same-sex community groups.
“While in 2012 the key population was dominated by sex workers (FSW) and sex workers (MSM), HIV/AIDS currently infects many pregnant mother and same-sex people,” Nafsiah said at the YKIS 2022 HIV/AIDS press conference in Jakarta on Tuesday.
In data held by YKIS, Nafsiah said that in 2021, the number of HIV infections among same-sex groups, particularly MSM, reached 9,826 cases, down from 2017 which reached 10,628 cases.
Then followed by pregnant mother 4,466 infections in 2021. Unfortunately, this number has even increased compared to 2017 which reached 3,873 cases.
He further said that in 2021, the number of tuberculosis (TB) patients infected with HIV will be 4,500 cases, female sex workers who are about 1,000 cases, and below that number will be followed by transgenders, injecting drug users , STI groups.
“I once talked about 4M (Mobile men with money in male-dominated circles). They are workers who travel to work due to high demands. Then months may pass, their families left behind. So in our opinion, there must be people running brothels there,” she said.
These data make him regret the situation in Indonesia, because in fact there are still many people who do not know their HIV status, even though knowledge and the various treatments for this disease are now advanced.
With only seven years remaining before the 2030 HIV elimination goal closes, Nafsiah called on all parties to work together to reduce the transmission rate of cases, the death rate of people living with HIV (ODHIV) and end stigma and discrimination or what is known as “Three Zeros“.
