Minister of Education, Culture, Research and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia Nadiem Makarim withdraw activities Scout as a mandatory extracurricular at school.
Through Ministerial Regulation Number 12 of 2024 concerning Curriculum for Early Childhood Education, Basic Education Level and Secondary Education Level, Scouting is placed as an activity that can be chosen and participated in according to the needs, potential, talents and interests of students.
“When this Ministerial Regulation comes into force: h. Regulation of the Minister of Education and Culture Number 63 of 2014 concerning Scouting Education as a Compulsory Extracurricular in Basic Education and Secondary Education is revoked and declared invalid,” reads Article 34 Chapter V Part of the Closing Provisions of Minister of Education and Culture 12 /2024.
This regulation was stipulated in Jakarta on March 25 2024 and came into effect on the date of promulgation, namely March 26 2024.
Thus, this regulation annuls Minister of Education and Culture Regulation Number 63 of 2014 concerning Scouting Education as a mandatory extracurricular activity in primary and secondary education.
Extracurriculars contain competencies, learning content and learning load and are aimed at developing students’ interests and talents.
Extracurricular development refers to components, types and formats of activities, development principles, mechanisms, evaluation, supporting capacity, and parties involved.
Meanwhile, extracurricular functions in educational units include developmental, social, recreational and career preparation functions.
In Permendikbudristek 12/2024 there are types of extracurricular activities such as:
1. Krida, for example: Scouting, Student Leadership Training (LKS), Youth Red Cross (PMR), School Health Business (UKS), Flag Raising Troop (Paskibra), and others;
2. Scientific work, for example: Youth Scientific Activities (KIR), activities for mastering knowledge and academic abilities, research, and others;
3. Talent training or interest training, for example: talent development for sports, arts and culture, nature lovers, journalism, theater, information and communication technology, engineering, and others;
4. Religious, for example: Islamic boarding school, religious lectures, reading and writing the Koran, retreats; or;
5. Other forms of activities.
Extracurriculars can be held in various formats as follows.
1. Individual, namely extracurricular activities that can be carried out in a format that is participated in by individual students.
2. Groups, namely extracurricular activities, can be carried out in a format that is participated in by groups of students.
3. Classical, namely extracurricular activities that can be carried out in a format that is attended by students in 1 (one) study group.
4. Combined, namely extracurricular activities that can be carried out in a format that is participated in by students between study groups.
5. Field, namely extracurricular activities that can be carried out in a format that is participated in by one or a number of students through activities outside of school or field activities.

CNNIndonesia.com has contacted the Head of the Educational Standards, Curriculum and Assessment Agency, Anindito Aditomo; Institutional Director Lukman; Plt. Head of the Cooperation and Public Relations Bureau, Anang Ristanto, asked for further explanation regarding this latest regulation but has not received a response.
