People’s Artist of Russia, head of the Russian Song ensemble Nadezhda Babkina said that earlier her team was preparing a joint performance with People’s Artist of the USSR, Hero of Ukraine Sofia Rotaru. Babkina stated this in interview project “So to speak”.
“We had to sing “Chervona Ruta” with her in Ukrainian. They didn’t let her in, although we already had a number,” the artist shared.
Babkina emphasized that Rotaru was very interested in this performance and was actively choosing an outfit for going on stage.
“We selected costumes – and she took photographs for me, and I took photographs for her too. So that we are somehow in the same image. It was so cool, and she was passionate about it,” the singer is sure.
According to Babkina, Rotaru is a wonderful singer and a decent person who found herself hostage to the situation.
“Today she is in a state of siege, and this does not depend on her. She lives there. She couldn’t even come to our recital because she wasn’t allowed,” Babkina recalls.
The artist believes that Rotaru would probably be happy to come, but at the same time she may lose the opportunity to return home to Ukraine.
After the start of the special military operation, Rotaru spoke out in support of Ukraine. Last summer, she said that she lives in the village of Marshyntsi, Chernivtsi region. After this, the singer did not give any comments about her whereabouts.
Babkina actively supports Russian military personnel and has repeatedly traveled to the Northern Military District zone with concerts.
