Spaniard Rafael Nadal declaredthat he will miss the Masters tournament in Madrid due to problems recovering from a hip injury received at the Australian Open. Tennis player’s words Reuters.
Nadal crashed out in the second round of the Australian Open, losing to American Mackenzie McDonald in three sets. After that, it became known that the Spaniard had a hip injury. Nadal missed the Masters series in Indian Wells, Miami (USA) and Monte Carlo and left the top 10 of the world rankings for the first time since 2005.
Nadal, 36, said his recovery should have taken six to eight weeks, but he has already missed 14.
“In reality, the situation is not developing as we expected. All medical orders are followed, but the recovery is not going as we were told, and we are in a difficult situation. <...> The injury still hasn’t healed and I can’t figure out what I need to do to compete,” Nadal said.

The Spaniard noted that it is still difficult to predict the timing of his recovery, but he and the doctors decided to change the recovery scheme.
Nadal won five times at the Masters in Madrid.
The tournament in Madrid will be held from April 26 to May 7, its prize pool will exceed €7.7 million.
