Nacho Elvira, 34, is of outstanding character. Life fits as it comes, with doubts at times, but assuming that working in sports ends up paying off. The Spaniard signed 67 strokes to embrace the leadership in the second day of the Cazoo Open, the tournament supported by Gareth Bale.
Elvira, without victories in the European Tour, had a brilliant day again and distanced the Swede Victor Norrman by two, while behind the Japanese Masahiro Kawamura, while celebrating the start of the Olympic Games in his country, threw 63 strokes, the best round of the day for four strokes.
Only one other Spaniard is under par in the tournament, Alejandro Caizares, after signing 69 strokes. Gonzalo Fernndez-Castao also passed the cut, which after a 70 (-1), is one over par.
Coincidentally, Elvira’s brother, Manuel, 10 years younger, is second in the Challenge de Fumine, in Italy, one stroke behind the leader, the Frenchman Frederic Lacroix.
