He’s finally here! It was exactly 9:21 a.m. when Naby Keita tackled the SV Werder Bremen adventure almost unnoticed on Monday morning.
Keita strolls across the parking lot
The midfielder strolled leisurely with his agent from the parking lot in the direction of the Wohninvest Weser Stadium, surprisingly enough autograph hunters didn’t get in his way. That should change on Wednesday at the latest, when the 28-year-old is supposed to train with the team on the pitch for the first time.
But first, Keita still has to do the obligatory performance tests, and he can also take his time to familiarize himself with the conditions on site.
Because Keita has a lot planned in Bremen. He wants to find his way back to his old strength and finally play football at a consistently high level again.
In the English Premier League that had hardly been possible recently, injuries repeatedly made sure that Keita was doomed to watch. That should be different at Werder Bremen.
“Naby is of course a player who can make the difference, but our priority now is to get him into a rhythm that he didn’t have before at Liverpool,” said head coach Ole Werner recently. “If we can do that, then he’s a player who can give us a lot of quality.”
Transfer causes quite a stir
Werder were able to sign Naby Keita on a free transfer a few weeks ago, outperforming some of the well-known competition and causing quite a stir internationally. The change triggered enormous euphoria among the fans – and the hope that more could be possible for the Bundesliga side in the coming season than just the fight for relegation.
