It was confirmed on the 12th that former Congressman Na Gyeong-won, who is struggling to run for the People’s Power party representative election, plans to submit a resignation letter to the Presidential Office on the 13th as vice chairman of the Low Fertility and Aging Society Committee. It is interpreted that he has already expressed his appreciation on the 10th, but since the presidential office did not show a clear response, he is formally requesting a clarification of his position.

An official from Na’s side said in a phone call that day, “I will submit a letter of resignation from the position of vice chairman tomorrow.” On the 10th, immediately after the conflict with the presidential office over measures against low birth rates, former lawmaker Na expressed his gratitude to key staff members of the presidential office, including Chief of Staff Kim Dae-gi, by text message. However, President Yoon Seok-yeol has not responded for the third day. The President’s Office explained that since Na had not submitted an actual letter of resignation, it could not be decided whether to ‘companion’ or ‘repair’. Regarding this, some interpreted it as an intention to prevent former lawmaker Na, who has emerged as the biggest variable in the party representative election, from running.

In this situation, Na’s resignation is interpreted as a message to the President’s office demanding a clear statement of position on whether or not to repair it. Whether it is repaired or rejected, President Yoon wants to clarify his position as soon as possible. An official from the former lawmaker said, “Since we are talking about the administrative procedure for the letter of resignation, we are submitting a paper resignation to show our firm will to resign.” It can also be interpreted as meaning that he will not create the appearance of being dismissed by the presidential office.

Regarding whether or not former lawmaker Na can run for the People’s Power party representative, this official said, “I am thinking about running or not running,” and said, “I am leaning a lot toward running.”

Previously, former lawmaker Na proposed a policy of ‘deducting loans during childbirth’ at a meeting on the 5th as vice chairman of the Low Fertility and Aging Society Committee. Then, the President’s office immediately criticized the next day, saying, “It has nothing to do with government policy, but rather there is a significant difference from the related policy stance of the Yoon Seok-yeol government.” Afterwards, pro-Yun Seok-yeol lawmakers attacked former lawmaker Na all at once.
