Earlier in the conversation, Vaneeckhout had called the N-VA “the party of homelessness, of cuts in healthcare and the dramas in childcare”. “Flanders is the only entity in this country that is still structurally healthy,” De Wever defends himself. “The federal government, on the other hand, is in the depths of the world: the highest taxes, the largest deficits and you throw money without conditions. We do not participate in that. The budgets for Welfare have been systematically increased. But the government cannot cover shortfalls: we accept that reality.”
