The N-VA party council on Saturday established the official planning for the three-yearly internal elections. The most eye-catching is of course the election of the chairman. At the request of the party management, the party council approved a statutory deviation for De Wever in a secret and written ballot with 92.7 percent of the votes.
That is not the first time. According to the party statutes, a chairman is bound by a maximum of two terms. De Wever has been leading N-VA since 2004 and thus obtained an exception three times before. As a result, a sixth mandate is now in the offing. The Antwerp mayor could then run the party until 2023.
Applications for the presidency must be submitted before 12 October 2020. Subsequently, the members will be able to vote digitally or by letter from October 26 to November 1, 2020. The results will be announced during the first renewed party council on November 14, 2020.
In addition to the party council, the fifteen district councils, the party council and the day-to-day management of the Flemish nationalists will also be renewed this autumn.
