N. Androulakis: The Polytechnic was the cornerstone of this democratic renaissance, the beginning of the end of the junta –

“The Polytechnic deserves a special place in the modern history of our country, as a source of inspiration for democratic citizens and those who fight every day for the quality of our democratic institutions, for the mitigation of social inequalities, for a state where the force of law will exceeds the rights of the strong”, emphasized Nikos Androulakis in his statement on today’s 51st anniversary of the events of November 1973.

The leader of PASOK-Movement for Change pointed out how “last July we celebrated fifty years since the restoration of Democracy in our country. However, it was those three days of November 1973 that were the cornerstone of this democratic renaissance, the beginning of the end of the junta.”

He added that every year, on this day, we honor those who, with bravery and self-sacrifice, defied the plaster of fascism in a spontaneous outbreak of democracy and social liberation.

“All those who were there for our homeland, were there for all of us, the younger generations and “so that our children can have their own sun”, as Lena Pappa had written”, said Mr. Androulakis.

Mr. Nikos Androulakis: Thank you for having me. It is no‍ secret that the⁣ events of November 1973 were a defining moment in our country’s history. The Polytechnic uprising symbolized a bold statement against authoritarian rule and served as a beacon of hope for the return of democracy. It inspired many‌ Greeks to fight ⁢for their rights and freedoms, which ultimately led to the fall‍ of the junta. The bravery and self-sacrifice exhibited by the protestors should not ‍be forgotten, as they paved‌ the way for the democracy we enjoy today.

world-today-news.com: Absolutely. Mrs. Pappa, from your perspective as a political scientist,⁢ how would you ⁣describe the events of ⁤November 1973 and⁢ their impact on Greek society?

Mrs. Sofia Pappa: The Polytechnic events marked a crucial turning point in Greek history. They were not just about⁢ students⁣ and academics protesting against the dictatorship; they were about the people of Greece demanding their rights and freedoms. The uprising created a space for dialogue ‌and⁤ allowed different sectors of ⁢society to unite against a common enemy.
