Myths and Facts About Masturbation, Don’t Believe The Wrong!

Jakarta

Masturbation is a natural innate habit that most young men do at puberty. This is a habit of satisfying oneself by stimulating the genitals, often using the hands, or some may use special tools to achieve orgasm.

Quoted from the Men’s Journal, the Kinsey Institute’s 2009 National Survey of Sexual Health Behavior found that about 90 percent of men had masturbated by the time they were 30 years old.

However, there are some misconceptions about this sexual behavior. Here are some fairly developed myths about masturbation.

1. Bad Effects on the genitals

Masturbation can indeed damage or adversely affect the genitals, but if it is done in a rough manner. According to Dr Ira D Sharlip, a clinical professor of urology at UCSF, as long as the man has not had a recent operation such as circumcision, then masturbation should be safe.

The penis may break if you masturbate violently and aggressively, but this is very rare.

2. Has No Effect on Fertility

Men do not actually lose fertility as a result of masturbation, but temporarily it can reduce fertility.

“Most men need about 12 to 24 hours to regenerate a good sperm count before ejaculating before,” says Sharlip.

So, if a person masturbates very often (every day) it will suppress sperm count and reduce fertility.

3. Masturbation Causes Crazy

This is an old myth that similar to masturbation can cause blindness and grow hair on the palms of the hands. In fact, many experts state that masturbation has benefits for mental health.

The Kinsey Institute notes that self-stimulation can make a person more relaxed and increase self-confidence in matters of sexuality.

4. Treat Erectile Dysfunction

The best treatment for erectile dysfunction is to see a professional in the field of sexual health. Masturbation cannot cure erectile dysfunction.

However, it can be a diagnostic test of a man’s erectile dysfunction. If a man is able to maintain an erection when masturbating, but not when with a partner, then it is likely that the man is experiencing erectile dysfunction caused by mental not physical.

5. Prevents Prostate Cancer

Research in 2003 and 2004 suggested that men who ejaculate more often have a lower risk of prostate cancer. The study showed that men who masturbate 20 times a month have a lower risk of prostate cancer by up to a third than men who masturbate four to nine times a month.

A 2008 study put forward a warning that a sexually active man in his 20s has an increased risk of prostate cancer, especially for those who masturbate frequently.

6. Masturbation spoils sex

Biologically, masturbation can take something away from orgasm.

“I think too often orgasm through masturbation can reduce pleasure during intercourse with a partner,” said Sharlip.

This occurs when the intensity of the orgasm takes place immediately after the last orgasm arrives. However, this applies to all types of sexual activity that climaxes.
