The mortal remains of the legend Diego Armando Maradona rest in the private cemetery Jardin Bella Vista, in the same plot as his mother Doña Tota. But today, two days after his 62nd birthday, his plaque has disappeared and the situation creates a mystery among fans.
The rumors have become so strong that the journalist Fabian Rubino of Grupo América traveled to the west of Buenos Aires to check where the tombstone had disappeared and shared two versions of the event that leave more doubts than unraveling the mystery. One is that the cemetery guards removed the marble plaque because they wanted to steal it, and the other is simply a family decision not to know where the legend’s grave is and not to be the target of fan attacks, it is said. ” Work”.
The remains of Maradona have been one of the most guarded in the country since November 26, 2020, especially as fans are constantly trying to sneak into the cemetery. However, this is somewhat difficult as no one can visit Don Diego unless he is a registered family member or authorized friend.
Political leaders, sports celebrities or tourists who travel thousands of kilometers are not allowed. The situation for other people who have a loved one is different, although it would be a little difficult to find the grave on a property that has 13 hectares and all the graves are the same.
“It happens very often that a family member comes from another plot of land and asks us ‘hey, Diego is here, right?’ We take it with great respect, “said Mario Acevedo, responsible for the maintenance of the cemetery, as quoted by the Clarin newspaper.
All tombs are identical, only natural flowers can be left on them. It is forbidden to approach less than 15 meters from the tomb of Diego Armando Maradona. “There is a Buenos Aires police officer appointed by the 24-hour court who is enforcing the family’s request that no one take pictures of the tombstone,” explains Daniel De la Vega, vice president of Jardín Bella Vista.
There is a pole with a dome surveillance camera and a reflector in which the cables are buried so as not to disturb the aesthetics of the building, and monitors everyone who moves in the area.
There are two sentences on Maradona’s tombstone. He was asked about one of him 15 years ago when he was host of La Noche del Diez on Channel 13 and he did a self-interview. He said he wanted his final resting place to read “Thanks for the dance!” The other inscription, chosen by his family and his friends, said “We miss you.”
Don Diego’s grave is located above that of his parents Dalma Salvadora Franco (Doña Tota) and Don Diego “Chitoro”.
Bella Vista Garden has 35,000 plots measuring one meter by two meters by three meters deep. Each has three levels with the ability to place three coffins (40cm apart) or nine urns.
