A NASA astronaut has been hospitalized in an unknown condition, Sky News reported. Its crew was due to return to Earth two months ago, but their return was hampered by problems with the Starliner capsule. The astronaut, whom NASA has not named for privacy reasons, is suffering from an unclear medical problem.
NASA initially said the entire crew was transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Hospital Pensacola as a precaution, but did not specify whether all or part of the crew were in trouble.
The remaining three crew members have left the hospital and returned to Houston, the space agency said. Matthew Dominique, Michael Barratt and Jeanette Epps and Russian cosmonaut Alexander Grebenkin traveled on a SpaceX Dragon spacecraft. SpaceX has a fleet of reusable spacecraft and they have traveled 44 times to the ISS.
The company, owned by Elon Musk, remains the only American option for NASA astronauts to and from the space station. Boeing’s Starliner, intended as a second trip to the US, has been hampered by years of development problems.
