The Foreign Ministry apparently does not know that Petkov is pursuing any policy abroad. In “Speak Now” the topic was commented by Ekaterina Zaharieva – MP from GERB-UDF and former Foreign Minister.
“Obviously, the prime minister is pursuing a foreign policy that the Foreign Ministry does not know about, and it struck me that Minister Genchovska is not present at most of the visits. When both are there and Petkov has a meeting with the RSM prime minister, it is strange that Genchovska present, “she said.
Zaharieva believes that Kiril Petkov has made a commitment to drop the veto on RSM’s EU membership.
“We know that a few days ago Minister Bujar Osmani told their media that a document was being prepared that was almost ready to be signed, but I personally understand that it is expected to be signed at the intergovernmental meeting,” she said.
According to her, GERB has information that a new intergovernmental meeting is being prepared in early May, Danas.bg reported.
“The commitment that the Prime Minister has obviously made will lead to the fact that the agreement that Bulgaria has maintained for years will be destroyed. He does not dare to say it at a public hearing in Bulgaria, because he knows that most Bulgarians will consider it national treason
Zaharieva explained that it is legally possible for the Council of Ministers to change the negotiating framework and say “yes” to the fall of the veto before the European Council without the consent of parliament.
“I hope he will not succeed, because there is still a declaration of the parliament. If he does not want to destroy this national agreement and if he does not want Bulgarian citizens to think of him as a national traitor, it is better to come to parliament and hear what say lawmakers, “he said.
