The days before Wertheim’s New Year’s Eve conference were shrouded in mystery. For example, at his request, no reviews of Micha Wertheim appeared for twelve, the show with which he made his New Year’s Eve debut on Sunday evening, and it therefore remained a secret to the viewer what the content of the show would be about.
Wertheim, the is not a very well-known name in the average living room, rarely appears on TV and rarely talks about his work. In short: it was a surprising choice by the NPO to go for Wertheim. Nevertheless, his show on Sunday evening was not at all poorly received. On social media, viewers stated that his conference was ‘different than usual’. For example, someone wrote: ‘Creative, refreshing and spot on. It doesn’t look good for humans and AI isn’t going to help us either, on the contrary. And still really laughed.’ And another: ‘There was something to laugh about again. Pleasant introduction to Micha Wertheim. Very successful, old-fashioned, fun, critical New Year’s Eve conference.’
There is also praise for Wertheim’s message. ‘No unctuous sermons, but addressing socially relevant topics as they are. Not everyone likes that. They could then go to the underpants fun at Voetbal Inside’, writes a viewer. Another believes that a New Year’s Eve conference does not always have to be ‘hilarious’. ‘Humor has many faces. Micha Wertheim has given my New Year’s Eve meaning again for years.’
However, there are also viewers who were less pleased with the comedian’s performance. ‘It’s a strange meta-humour. The joke about his lost sense of humor is funny, but he rambles on for too long,” is one viewer’s criticism. And someone else: ‘It’s still not about current events. We’re almost an hour away.’
Others found the conference ‘absolutely not funny’ and therefore switched to another channel after just a few minutes. ‘I watch Micha Wertheim.
