Mystery Surrounding Falling Bright Light Over Sofia and Other Populated Areas

A falling bright light was noticed in the sky over Sofia, Vidin, Lom and other populated areas at 21:50. It is assumed to be a meteorite, but for now the BAS and the Rozhen observatory do not confirm.

“For the sound of a violent explosion that happened minutes ago, residents of Vidin gave an alarm. At the moment, there is no rain or thunder there,” first reported the site MeteoBalkans, which was also sent footage of the falling light.

“At around 10 p.m., a rumble was heard on the territory of the Vidin region. Vidin ODMVR teams were immediately sent to the area, which made an inspection. There are no reports of injured people or material damage on the spot. According to the Romanian authorities, it is a meteorite that exploded in the air. The investigation continues,” the Ministry of the Interior told bTV.

“Between 25,000 and 30,000 meteorites fall on Earth every year. Their total average weight reaches 10 tons. Between 6 and 12 meteorites a year are the size of a washing machine,” commented Nikola Petrov from the observatory in Rozhen to bTV.
