Mystery solved: 35-year-old BMW found in the Isar River

The police admit that the 5-series BMW has been lying in the mud of the Izar River for 35 years.

The media of Landau (Lower Bavaria) writes about a mysterious find in the river Isar – after the police station received a report from a fisherman, special services arrived at the indicated place and lowered robots with video cameras to the bottom of the river. Modern technologies made it possible to find out that the sunken object is a car, so an operation was prepared with the involvement of divers and special equipment.

When the car was brought ashore, it turned out to be a 5-series BMW 520i (E12), with license plates and a TÜV stamp of technical inspection valid until December 1998. The car was pretty well preserved because it was deep in the mud that protected it from rust.

The police tried to find out the owner of the vehicle, but it was not possible, because such old data is not stored in the police archives, and the approach to the manufacturer did not bring clarity either. Now the police are contacting the residents of the area, asking if anyone has any information about the light blue 5-series BMW with DGF-HT 24 license plates, maybe someone remembers who drove such a car in the period 1986-1989.
