Mystery Illness on Queen Victoria Cruise Ship Spreads to 154 Passengers

A mystery gastrointestinal illness has spread aboard the Queen Victoria cruise ship, operated by Cunard Cruise Line. As many as 154 passengers are currently experiencing symptoms such as diarrhea and vomiting. The ship, which left from Fort Lauderdale, Fla., on Jan. 22, is expected to reach its final destination of Honolulu, HI on Feb. 12.
The Outbreak
The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is currently investigating the outbreak on the Queen Victoria cruise ship. The exact cause of the illnesses is still unknown, and the CDC’s Vessel Sanitation Program is closely monitoring the ship’s response and protocols.
Rapid Increase in Number of Infected
The number of infected individuals has rapidly increased. Initially reported at 139 on Friday, the total number now stands at 154, encompassing 129 passengers and 25 crew members.
Actions Being Taken
Upon confirmation of the illness outbreak, Cunard Cruise Line has enacted protocols to ensure the wellbeing of all individuals on board. The cruise line is actively cooperating with the CDC and other relevant authorities to contain the spread of the illness onboard the ship.
