A hotel in Zevenbergen in North Brabant was evacuated after four employees fell ill. As it was not clear what was going on, the emergency services were called in, reports said Broadcast Brabant.

The four staff at the Fletcher Hotel kitchen felt ill throughout the evening. So the emergency services were called at around 9pm. An ambulance and the fire brigade then arrived. As a precaution, it was decided to accommodate the hotel’s 120 guests in coaches on site.

Because the people who fell ill had different complaints, the cause could not be determined correctly, a spokesperson for the safety district told the regional broadcaster. “It could have been a gas leak, carbon monoxide, food poisoning or something in the ventilation system. “

No toxic substances were detected during measurement. In the end it was about something completely different. “It turned out to be some kind of virus that had been circulating among the hotel staff for some time,” the spokesman said. “Now it included four people who happened to be working in the kitchen at the same time. “

Hotel guests were able to get back inside around 10:30 p.m. The hotel did not want to respond to Omroep Brabant.
