Antwerp –
Anyone who has passed the passage from the Diamant metro station to Central Station in recent days could see that a gutter was placed above one of the escalators to catch the water from a leak.
Who installed the gutter remains a mystery for now. Neither the NBMS nor De Lijn know how it got there. “The underground corridor is not NMBS territory,” says NMBS spokesperson Bart Krols. “It is also a mystery to us who placed the construction, but we have communicated it internally that it can be investigated.”
Both parties were also not yet aware of the flooding above one of the escalators leading to the pre-metro station. Although, according to passersby who regularly pass by, the leak has been there for more than a year. “We indeed suspect that water is leaking in the underground tunnel, but we cannot make any further statements about this for the time being,” says spokesperson for De Lijn Marco Demerling.
“If there is flooding or other problems in the station, we always try to tackle them as quickly as possible. But because the construction is not on our territory, we were not yet informed. We will investigate where the problem could come from,” Krols adds.
