“Mystery Gas Incident” at School in Southwest Germany: Dozens Injured, Investigation Launched

Nearly 100 people were slightly injured in an accident at a school in southwestern Germany and had to be examined by a doctor after several teachers and students complained of shortness of breath and respiratory problems, DPA reported.

About 20 of them were hospitalized this morning, police said, while the rest were treated at the scene.

There were initially concerns that there might have been a gas leak at the school in the town of Schwäbisch Hall, Baden-Württemberg. Firefighters inspected the rooms and radiators, but according to the police, “they did not find any dangerous gases”, BTA reported.

Dozens of fire engines and rescue vehicles arrived at the scene, and three helicopters were activated during the action, the police said.

According to the law enforcement authorities, “it is very likely that tear gas was sprayed into the building.” The police have launched an investigation into the incident.
