A mysterious ‘surfboard’ on the Moon was captured in incredible NASA photographs last March: The images, captured by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter (LRO), revealed a thin horizontal line of an object that evokes the appearance of the surfboard , even being able to be associated with the Marvel character ‘Silver Surfer’.
The photo, which went viral on social media, was in the background of its South Korean counterpart as the two orbiters passed each other. The South Korean Danuri probe appears distorted due to the extremely fast relative speeds between it and LRO, about 11,500 kilometers per hour.
This resulted in a photo that ‘stretches’ the South Korean probe up to 10 times its size in the opposite direction of movement, due to the short exposure time of the LRO camera.
Interestingly, last spring, Danuri photographed the LRO as it flew over the South Korean spacecraft about 18 kilometers away.
