You see two sharks megabocca swim slowly. One is closer to the surface, the other is below. The megamouth, scientifically known as megachasma pelagios, is a deep-sea shark species discovered in 1976 and rarely observed by humans.
“Maybe the two sharks were a couple. One appears to be male and the other is female,” said Alison Schulman-Janiger, an expert at the Los Angeles County Museum of Natural History.

This shark can grow up to almost 6 meters. The habitat is located at a depth of between 900 and 4,500 meters. The megamouth shark was first caught in 1976 near Hawaii when it got stuck in a ship’s anchor.
As for San Diego, there have been two sightings of this fish before. “Some speculate that Southern California is a breeding ground for them. They spend a lot of time deep in the ocean, away from the coast,” Alison added.
Hello megabocca it has also been seen in Taiwan, the Philippines and South Africa. “There’s still a lot we don’t know about them because we rarely see them,” Alison said.
