Jakarta –
Mysterious structures have been discovered along the shores of Daytona Beach in Volusia County, Florida, United States after Hurricane Nicole and Hurricane Ian. Its appearance has given rise to various speculations and theories.
No one is sure what the object is. A number of local residents suspect the object is a shipwreck or a relic of the long lost NASCAR race.
This strange wooden apparition was reportedly first seen by beachgoers around mid-November. The structure is made up of strange pieces of wood and some metal sticking out of the sand. The two stretches are visible from the rubble which extends between 24-30 metres.
Quoted from IFL Science, Thursday (8/12/2022) this structure appeared as a result of coastal erosion from the two hurricanes that recently rocked Florida. Category 4 Hurricane Ian hit America in late September and Category 1 Hurricane Nicole a few weeks later in early November.
While Hurricane Nicole was milder than Ian, the Volusia region where this coast is located experienced the more destructive Hurricane Nicole. The beach suffers from a significant amount of erosion caused by strong winds, heavy rains and large waves.
“This erosion is unprecedented at this point. We haven’t seen this type of erosion in a long time,” said Tammy Malphurs, Volusia’s deputy chief of coastal security.

“I’ve been on the beach maybe 25 years and it’s the first time I’ve seen it,” he said.
Florida state archaeologists have sent in images of the site and will head to the coast for a thorough investigation.
Until the works are completed, it appears that the local community will continue to be lulled into speculation. Media reports say local people’s guesses range from the remains of a sea barrier, a shipwreck or part of an old pier. There are also suggestions that the structure may be a seat left over from a NASCAR race that was once held on the beach.
While weather events are often seen as a destructive force, they sometimes have the potential to unravel or relive the past. In 2018 England was hit by a dry and hot summer. The extremely dry climate has turned the fields from green to yellow and has revealed traces of once-lost structures, including prehistoric settlements, burial mounds and farms from the Iron Age, Bronze Age and Roman period.
