Liputan6.com, Jakarta – Researchers were shocked by the discovery of a mysterious gold-colored hollow object on the seabed near the coast of Alaska. According to the National Oceanographic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), the object has a smooth texture to the touch, similar to the texture of skin.
Launch Daily Mail on Wednesday, September 6 2023, although the identity of the object cannot be confirmed, some experts suspect it is an egg shell or a sea sponge. “It looks like something is trying to get in, or maybe get out,” said the Miami Herald, one of the researchers while live broadcasting the discovery.
The so-called ‘egg’ was discovered at a depth of about two miles during a mission organized by NOAA and broadcast over the internet. NOAA shared a photo of the object on X, formerly Twitter, calling it a ‘golden ball’. They suspected that the object might be an egg shell, which sparked the curiosity of many people who watched the broadcast.
As a next step, instead of leaving it where it was found, NOAA used a remotely operated mechanical device to touch the object and free it from the rocks to which it was attached. The object is then taken and placed in a tube to be taken to land.
There, they hope that DNA tests that will be carried out in the laboratory will provide further information regarding the creature’s identity. Experts are not yet sure about the cause of the large hole in the front, but one possibility is the result of a fight with other sea creatures.
