Mysterious flash of light across the night sky of Melbourne City at Australia to make the public wonder. Some people mistook the flash for a meteor crashing to Earth, but the Australian Space Agency quickly confirmed it was the remnants of a Russian rocket launch.
As reported The GuardianThursday (10/8/2023), a large, flashing flash of light was reported across the sky over Mount Buller heading into the business district Melbourne on Monday (7/8) evening local time.
The flash of light burned for nearly a minute just after midnight, before finally breaking into several brightly lit pieces.
Reports of sightings have emerged from various regions, even as far as Bendigo, which is two hours north of Melbourne.
“A shooting star over Melbourne, or a comet?” asked one user of social media X, formerly Twitter.
“I don’t know if it’s a meteor, comet or space junk,” wrote another X social media user.
Experts were quick to judge the flash of light as space junk, burning up from friction as it hit Earth’s atmosphere at high speed.
