In Andhra Pradesh, one of the most affected regions in India, 227 people were hospitalized over the weekend due to an unidentified disease. By Monday afternoon their number increased to 450 people. One person died.

The patients had disturbing symptoms: they suffered from headaches, backaches, nausea, lost consciousness, memory, and epileptic seizures.

Interestingly, most of the sick are young people, aged 20-30. Among those suffering from mysterious symptoms there are also 45 children under the age of 12 – informs the portal timesofindia.com.

Mysterious disease in India. Researchers found the cause?

It was suspected that there was a possibility of collective poisoning. One of the main “suspects” was water. It turned out, however, that no toxic substances were found in the collected samples.

Also, no hazardous substances in the air were detected.

Experts who study samples collected in the city, as well as from sick ones, are now pretty sure that organochlorine pesticides such as DDT are responsible for the epidemic in Eluru.

These measures are already banned in most countries around the world, but are still used in India.

Symptoms of acute poisoning with these pesticides are identical to those experienced by patients.
