NEW YORK — Law enforcement officials in New York were left baffled after a car was captured on surveillance video rolling into the Hudson River and then disappearing along with its driver.
The Piermont Police Department said officers responded around 2 p.m. Wednesday to a report of damage to the town’s popular pier on Ferry Road. Officers found “tire marks from a vehicle in the snow that extended to the end of the dock.” Vehicle parts were scattered across the damaged dock.
Surveillance video showed a vehicle entering the dock. The driver exited the vehicle, and the vehicle then “proceeded to drive from the end of the pier toward the Hudson River,” police said.
The dock was closed while police and the Rockland County Sheriff’s Office searched for the missing vehicle in the river, but it was nowhere to be found. They have also not been able to identify the driver.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident, or the identity of the driver, to come forward or submit an anonymous tip.
