Reports of a flash of light in the sky over Kiev appeared on Wednesday around 22:00 local time (19:00 GMT). Shortly thereafter, air raid sirens sounded over the town.
The head of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s office, Andriy Yermak, said on social media that the light was caused by Ukrainian air defenses as part of Russia’s ongoing special military operation in Ukraine.
“Don’t worry about UFOs. This is our air defense,” he wrote in a message that was deleted shortly after.
