Jakarta –
The Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia reported the findings of three cases of death, suspected to be caused by acute hepatitis of unknown cause. The report follows hundreds of mysterious hepatitis cases that have spread in several countries. While the investigation is being carried out, the Indonesian people are asked to be vigilant but remain calm.
“During the investigation period, we urge the public to be careful and remain calm,” said Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health (Kemenkes), Dr. Siti Nadia Tarmizi in the official website of the Indonesian Ministry of Health, Sunday (1/4/2022).
“Take precautions such as washing hands, ensuring food is cooked and clean, not changing eating utensils, avoiding contact with sick people and continuing to implement health protocols,” he continued.
The Indonesian Ministry of Health also said that now his party is conducting an investigation related to the cause of the suspected case of acute hepatitis, namely by examining a complete virus panel. It was also mentioned that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Health Office was conducting an epidemiological investigation.
On another occasion, the former Director of the World Health Organization (WHO) Southeast Asia, Prof. Tjandra Yoga Aditama, highlighted the importance of conveying to the public the results of other viruses. In view of this, WHO recommends in-depth examination of viral characteristics with examination of blood, serum, urine, faeces, airway samples, and liver biopsy if possible.
“Other than later, of course, there will be an explanation about the results of the Hepatitis AE Laboratory and also the Adenovirus in our case, so it is better to convey to the public about the results of the examination of other viruses,” said Prof. Tjandra in his statement to detik.comMonday (2/4).
