Mylène Farmer: Breaking Fashion and Music Boundaries as a Queer Icon

Known for her eccentric appearances and shows, Mylène Farmer is also popular for her unique style of dress. In July 2011, she caused a stir by closing the fashion show of designer Jean-Paul Gauthier in a black wedding dress. Androgynous style or heightened femininity, the singer unquestionably wears daring pieces. Considered an icon for part of the LGBTQIA+ community, she breaks the codes both with her songs and with her clothes.

I also think that I share with gay audiences, as with other audiences for that matter, the feeling of being ‘different’, a feeling that causes difficulties in living in this world.”
