Myanmar’s military continues to protest against pressure for “immediate return”

A week-long coup protests continued throughout Myanmar, despite the call for the supreme commander of the Myanmar military to return to work as a civil servant.

According to foreign and local media, Supreme Commander Hlaing said in a statement issued through the state-run media to immediately return to work for officials participating in the civil disobedience movement.

The Supreme Commander Hulaing also urged government officials to refrain from assembly yesterday (11th) because of concerns about the spread of Corona 19 and returning to work.

But today in Myanmar, tens of thousands of people came to the streets for a Union Day holiday to protest peacefully.

In Yangon, the largest city, hundreds of doctors dressed in scrubs and gowns marched through the city center to protest, and government officials in essential industries such as teachers, bureaucrats, and air traffic controllers also joined.

In Molamin, a coastal city in the southeast, three people were injured by firing rubber bullets in the process of dismantling protesters, Reuters reported, citing a local Red Cross official.

In addition, local media reported that military security forces continued arrests of members of democratic national alliances in some cities last night.

Meanwhile, Supreme Commander Hlaing made a decision to pardon more than 23,000 prisoners in prison this morning.

The AFP news agency said it was common for pardons to be granted on Union Day, but there were no indications that shame torture or aides would be released.

Myanmar Now, a local media outlet, said Wiratu, a far-right monk who has publicly criticized the shame torture and supported the military, is expected to be included in pardon and released.

For this reason, some of the social media have raised doubts about the attempt to release a large number of military supporters and have them attack the protesters protesting the coup.
