Jakarta –
Troops Myanmar pounded a restive city, setting off a fire that destroyed dozens of homes, as well as the offices of the charity Save the Children.
That Southeast Asian country has been in chaos since military coup in February, with more than 1,200 people reported killed in Myanmar forces’ crackdown on anti -coup protesters.
In the whole Myanmar, “self -defense forces” emerged to confront military junta, which then escalates bloody attacks and retaliation.
As reported by the news agency AFP, Saturday (30/10/2021), according to local media, Khit Thit and The Chindwin, Junta troops stormed the town of Thantlang in western Chin state on Friday (29/10) local time after a confrontation with local self-defense forces.
A Thantlang resident who had fled the city after earlier clashes told AFP that the onslaught began after members of the local forces captured a soldier.
“As soon as that happened, heavy artillery was fired,” he said, adding that he had heard between 80 and 100 houses had been destroyed.
“We don’t know if the houses caught fire after being hit by the artillery or they set the houses on fire,” he added.
“We… don’t even know what to say,” said a woman still living in the city, who was contacted by AFP and said her house had been destroyed.
