Myanmar junta leader responds after being banned from participating in regional summit

ASEAN was founded in 1967. The original five member states were driven into each other’s arms mainly by fear of communism. Today, the Association of Southeast Asian Nations mainly works together in the fields of economy, politics and security. Member States mainly focus on cooperation and consensus and usually do not lecture each other. The ten member states are Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
