Myanmar Anti-Coup Demonstrators More Killed by Gunfire

The victim who was shot dead during the anti-coup demonstration in Myanmar continues to grow. Most recently, there were six people who died as a result of the shooting Myanmar police while cracking down hard on demonstrators in various regions.

Local media reports said a demonstrator was killed during an anti-coup rally held in the city of Pyay.

“The security forces initially stopped the ambulance from reaching the wounded and only allowed it later. When they allowed it, one of the injured became critical and he eventually died,” one of the demonstrators in Pyay, who spoke on condition of anonymity, told Reuters.

Two other people, also according to local media reports, died as a result of police shooting in the city of Yangon on Friday (12/3) evening local time.

Myanmar’s local media, DVB News, previously reported that the two men died after being hit by gunfire that police fired at a crowd of demonstrators who had gathered outside a police station in Tharketa district, Yangon. Demonstrators gathered there to demand the release of those arrested.

The advocacy group Association of Assistance for Political Prisoners (AAPP) reports a total of more than 70 people have died in protests across Myanmar since the military coup carried out on February 1.
